Feedly- No, it is not another food prep subscription

Feedly is an amazing app that I ran across during a sad, almost pathetic scan of whats new on the iOS app store.

Periodically I will search through a block of websites for news and blog posts of interest to me. Sometimes this can take hours to find the sites, look at the headlines and navigate back and forth between them.

Feedly makes all that wasted time a thing of the past. It is like I found time, essentially I am not a manipulator of time, a time traveler if you will. It is all because of Feedly.

It is pretty simple and awesome. you open your feedly app and type or paste the blog, news and other websites you wish to check periodically and that’s it. Now once a week I open feedly, look at the headlines and go in for a deeper dive or move on to the next thing on my agenda.

Nearpod Tips and Tricks from NYSCATE

I was lucky enough to be asked to go to the NYSCATE conference in November and although it was almost a year ago, I have just found some lost notes about a great session I attended about Nearpod and some tips and tricks. The session was what is known as a “toolbox” where they just give you rapid fire ideas and tricks on whatever subject is on the plan.

This particular one was hosted by Laurie Guyon and included tips and tricks for Nearpod.

Make your first slide interactive so the students have time to get settled and log in
To save a lesson, the students must type a note of any kind somewhere in there.
Immersive reader in built into Nearpod and is very simple for students to use.
You do not have to use your classroom display for lesson since it is on all the students devices.
Use a countdown when you are asking them to do anything interactive, helps with time management.
You can share screens anonymously
TIME TO CLIMB- Kahoot type game is a lot of fun, highly engaging.
Matching pairs is also a great interactive slide option
You can embed websites such as thinglink, desmos, and padlet.

Many of these features are available with the free Nearpod subscription and for those in NY state, it is Ed Law 2-D compliant.

I am aware we do not all need to schedule things with colleagues, but when you do it can be a real pain when you cannot figure out a common meeting time for everyone. Doodle allows you to send choices. It is also compatible with outlook and you can even add it onto your outlook school calendar. Here is a quick tutorial to see how it works.
