CleverPDF

Clever PDF is a great new web tool for editing PDF’s to your own specifications.

Sometimes you might be looking at a 125 page PDF and only need 1 or 2 pages from it. Before now there was no way to pair the document down without paying a fee. Now you can split the document, combine documents and so many other things to do with PDF’s

One quick mention. If you are using the tools that take a PDF and change it into an editable document such as a Word or Pages doc you WILL lose some of the formatting and definitely will want to look at the document and probably fix that document before sending it off.

Trace my Shadow- Digital Footprint tool

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be a slug?  If you think about it a little differently, as a slug you would leave a sticky trail behind covering everywhere you have been.

Trace my shadow shows you the sticky trail you leave all over the Internet.

Just a few clicks and you and your students can see just how many different trails you make on any given day.

You might even say you create a web.

Scratch – on an iPad?

The popular coding site scratch.mit.edu is really really really close to their ability to run without Flash. What does this mean? This means you can use scratch on an iPad and any other device that it could not run on before today.

Scratch 3.0 is available in Beta right now. If you are not sure what Beta means, here is the deal. When a program is in Beta it is still in its testing phase. While I would not use it with students yet, I would use it as a teacher to see the “lay of the land.” This way when they get all the kinks out, you will know how it works, any tips and tricks to do with the 3.0 version.

Again, I would not use the Beta version with students, things go wrong in Beta and there may not be a fix for it.

Panaform.com

I love panaform.com. Virtual Reality has a lot of applications. Some applications are fun, some are educational, and some, like panaform are fun and creative. All you need are

If you like to color inside the lines or get bold and color outside the lines Panaform is a fun, quick motivational tool to make your artwork become a world to explore.

Choice Boards

I love choice boards. These boards of choice give the students a stake in their education, and if presented well can motivate the unmotivatable (is that even a word?) You can customize these boards to adjust the activities or the number of squares. Make it however it will work best for you. You do not even have to make the choices tech oriented, but if you do, you have a reason to call me into your room.  You can search for fancy templates or make your own. Please let me know if you need anything from me along the way.

Doodle scheduling

Make Scheduling Quick and Easy with Doodle

I am aware we do not all need to schedule things with colleagues, but when you do it can be a real pain when you cannot figure out a common meeting time for everyone. Doodle allows you to send choices. It is also compatible with outlook and you can even add it onto your outlook school calendar. Here is a quick tutorial to see how it works.

Come learn how you can make scheduling events and meetings quick and easy using the digital tool, Doodle.
Doodle is a digital tool that will allow you to create and send polls when scheduling meetings, a get together, events, etc.. It simplifies the scheduling process by aggregating common dates that users submit through their poll responses. For instance, here are the results from a poll I sent to some friends when trying to schedule a get-together. I love the visual graphic that allows me to quickly see that April 26th works best for everyone. -Julie Smith AKA thetechieteacher

Custom Eye Chart Maker

For a fun way to sent messages to your students and colleagues try http://www.eyechartmaker.com/. It is free and easy, fast and fun. All you do is type in your 28 characters and click the “make the chart” button. Up comes your chart. Just use the clipping tool to save the image while omitting the website information on the bottom or copy and paste the image into a document. The more fun the message, the more in-tune your students will want to be in your room, present and ready to problem solve. Change the message weekly, daily or randomly to add to their excitement.

Breakout EDU

Not only is Breakout EDU a fun way to review with your class, there are so many options of breakouts to choose. You can do the traditional breakout with the boxes and locks. There are Digital Breakout EDU, whicjh is a version with a lot less prep time to set a game up. You can make your own Digital Breakout game using Microsoft FORMS found in the waffle on your email.

Whichever you choose your students will enjoy the game and I would say with confidence you will think it well worth the time put in to make the game. I received this today in my Facebook Breakout group, its a nice resource. Doubly nice if you already used symbaloo.

At RJK, we have 5 kits currently up and functioning, by the fall we should have 8 kits total. This way more than one teacher at a time can use them. We also have the code so that we can use the free and the paid breakouts. See your staff developer to begin.
